A Word on Wheat vs Tares

Last Sunday I preached on the parable of the wheat and the tares. In terms of sanctification, there is a lesson here about perfection as we understand it, and as God understands it. LIke the servants in the parable, we want to excise evil everywhere: in the world, in the church, in ourselves. God seems to be more tolerant of sin than we are! There is a lesson to be learned here in terms of what we should expect from ourselves, and what grace and forbearance should look like: in brief, I am counseling against both asceticism and despair.
